Join LAIXR to help build next-generation immersive XR simulations focused on healthcare, medical training, and interactive real-time experiences for standalone VR devices including Meta Quest 3.

We are looking for a highly technical and creative 3D Artist who can design, optimize, and integrate high-quality real-time assets and environments into Unreal Engine simulations. This role combines environment art, technical art, optimization, lighting, materials, and XR-focused production workflows.

For which tasks (responsibilities)?

Environment & Asset Creation

  • ⁠ ⁠Create high-quality 3D models for medical simulations and XR applications.

  • Design realistic hospital environments including: Build props, medical devices, furniture, equipment, and modular environment assets.

  • Maintain realistic scale, proportions, and medical visual accuracy.

Unreal Engine Integration

  1. Import and integrate assets into Unreal Engine 5.

  2. Create optimized materials and shaders for real-time VR rendering.

Set up:

  • Materials

  • Texture workflows

  • Lighting

  • Post processing

  • LODs

  • Collision

⁠Organize Unreal projects using scalable production pipelines and naming conventions.

⁠Ensure clean folder structures and maintainable asset libraries.

XR & Meta Quest Optimization

  1. Optimize environments and assets specifically for standalone VR devices including Meta Quest 3.

  2. ⁠Reduce draw calls, overdraw, shader complexity, and memory usage.

Create performance-friendly:

  • Meshes

  • Textures

  • Materials

  • Lighting setups

Work within VR frame-rate constraints (72/90 FPS targets).

⁠Understand mobile rendering limitations and XR best practices.

Lighting & Materials

  • ⁠Create realistic lighting for medical and clinical environments.

  • ⁠Build physically based rendering (PBR) materials.

  • ⁠Balance visual quality with VR performance constraints.

  • ⁠Use baked and dynamic lighting workflows appropriately.

  • ⁠Create reusable material instances and master material systems.

What kind of professional are we looking for?

Character & Animation

  • ⁠Character rigging and skinning.

  • ⁠Animation creation and cleanup.

Experience with:

  • Animation Blueprints

  • Montages

  • Sequencer

  • State Machines

  • Retargeting

  • IK systems

Ability to animate medical interactions and procedural sequences.

Technical Skills

  • Knowledge of Blueprint systems in Unreal Engine.

  • ⁠Understanding of shaders and material functions.

  • ⁠Familiarity with XR interaction systems.

  • ⁠Experience with optimization and profiling tools.

Additional Tools

Experience with one or more:

  • ⁠Blender

  • ⁠Autodesk Maya

  • ⁠3ds Max

  • ⁠Substance Painter

  • ⁠ZBrush

  • ⁠Adobe Photoshop

Nice to Have

•⁠ ⁠Experience in medical simulation or healthcare visualisation.

•⁠ ⁠Experience developing for standalone VR devices.

•⁠ ⁠Familiarity with interactive simulation workflows.

•⁠ ⁠Knowledge of procedural asset workflows.

•⁠ ⁠Experience with version control systems such as Git or Perforce.
