The Director of Planning and Analysis – Sustainability (with Carbon Accounting) will lead the company’s sustainability strategy, ensuring the integration of sustainability goals into long-term business planning and operations. This role will be instrumental in setting and tracking science-based targets (SBTs) for carbon reduction, managing carbon accounting, and reporting on the company’s environmental impact. The Director will work closely with internal stakeholders, including operations, finance, and strategy teams, to drive data-driven decision-making in sustainability efforts and align the company’s actions with global climate goals.
What You'll Do
Planning and Analysis
Drive the implementation of the company’s Carbon Management roadmap with a particular focus on carbon reduction goals and meeting science-based targets (SBTs).
Provide oversight and guidance on sustainability initiatives, ensuring that carbon accounting, emissions reduction, and sustainability goals are integrated into business operations.
Align sustainability initiatives with financial performance and long-term growth.
Develop and manage financial models for sustainability projects.
Monitor and report on the financial impact of sustainability initiatives, ensuring cost-effectiveness.
Manage sustainability data systems to collect, analyze, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to carbon emissions, energy usage, waste reduction, and other sustainability metrics.
Data-driven decision-making to improve sustainability performance and operational efficiency.
Provide accurate, timely, and transparent reports on Carbon Management sustainability performance to internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, investors, and customers.
Carbon Accounting and Emissions Reduction
Facilitate the company’s carbon accounting process, ensuring the accurate measurement, reporting, and verification of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across Scope 1, 2, and 3.
Lead the development and execution of the company’s carbon reduction plan, ensuring progress toward meeting science-based emissions reduction targets.
Ensure that the company’s carbon accounting and reporting align with global standards, including the GHG Protocol and the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi).
Build and oversee advanced predictive models, scenario analysis tools, leveraging data science to identify carbon reduction pathways and sustainability risks.
Cross-Functional Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement
Work closely with internal teams, including operations, finance, supply chain, and marketing, to integrate sustainability goals into their respective areas of responsibility.
Act as a liaison between the company and external stakeholders such as environmental NGOs, industry associations, and sustainability consultants.
Support the development and communication of the company’s sustainability strategy to customers, investors, and the public.
Continuous Improvement and Innovation
Stay current on industry best practices, emerging sustainability trends, and changes in regulations and standards, adapting the company’s strategy as needed.
Continuously identify new opportunities for emissions reductions, energy efficiency, and waste reduction through process improvements, innovation, and collaboration.
What We're Looking For
8+ years of experience in finance management, financial planning and analysis, carbon accounting, environmental policy, or a related field, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role.
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Environmental Science, Sustainability, Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
Certifications related to sustainability or carbon accounting (e.g., GHG Accounting, ISO 14064, CDP, LEED certifications) are preferred and highly desirable.
A driver’s license for property-to-property travel is required
Willing to travel on project assignments, as needed (<15%) is required
This role can be physically challenging and requires physical strength and stamina during site visits and audits, which may require long hours
Experience developing and implementing strategies across a global or large-scale organization, with a focus on driving measurable impact.
Experience in cross-functional collaboration and leading projects across departments.
Strong analytical and data management skills, with the ability to interpret and communicate complex sustainability data.
Expertise in sustainability reporting and regulatory compliance, particularly in carbon accounting and climate-related disclosures, preferred.
Excellent leadership and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives, lead teams, and collaborate across organizational functions.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence senior leaders, colleagues, and external stakeholders effectively.
A passion for sustainability and a commitment to driving meaningful environmental change within a corporate setting.
Ability to develop long-term sustainability plans and align them with business goals.
Demonstrated track record of achieving measurable outcomes, including carbon reduction and resource optimization.
Ability to influence stakeholders at all levels and drive cross-functional collaboration to achieve sustainability objectives.
Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate complex sustainability challenges and find innovative solutions.
Flexibility to adapt to evolving sustainability standards, market conditions, and organizational priorities
